"Every day I am pushed to better myself and in turn, strive to better our team."
What's been your most rewarding project(s) while at your firm?
I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in construction projects from Hidalgo, TX to Fishkill, NY. It’s an eye-opening experience to see how different areas of the country operate. We’ve built many exciting projects but my most rewarding one to date is the Park Place Project in Leawood, KS. The project consists of an apartment complex, office building core and shell with tenant finish-out, and a site infrastructure package.
Learning the drawings inside and out for all these early on was crucial in order to write detailed and accurate subcontract agreements and put together an aggressive, but realistic schedule. I was lucky enough to be involved with pre-construction on both projects, and the design-build process on the office project. Working with the different design teams and the ownership group to develop the plans, discuss and learn from the challenges experienced on previous projects, then bring it all to life, has really been a rewarding process.
This particular project was unique in that we had to put together a team that could handle overseeing the construction of two buildings, on the same site, with multiple contractors working at both simultaneously. It has been wonderful to see goals that we established early on, turn to milestones that we can look back on and be proud of. One of the best aspects of this project has been maintaining a project schedule through construction while overcoming major obstacles along the way.
This project has had a very positive impact on my career development and growth as a project manager. Every day I am pushed to better myself and in turn, strive to better our team. I’ve learned that every detail has a purpose, and we are the eyes that have to ensure those details are maintained throughout construction. We’ve had a great relationship with the ownership group, design teams, and subcontractors/suppliers which has enabled us to provide an end product that everyone will be proud to put their name on.
