What's been your most rewarding project(s) while at your firm?
When FERC’s Order 1000 was passed, it was a landmark order that caused confusion and disruption in the utility industry. For utilities, it was new to feel the forces of market competition. I closely followed the order, looking for complications and opportunities for utilities and others in the transmission industry and thought about how we could help our clients.
I was able to work with a variety of clients to advance growth initiatives and develop strategies for success in an uncertain business environment. On one particular project, I worked alongside a client to help identify and develop a competitive transmission project that was ultimately selected by the regional transmission organization. The $300 million project helped to elevate congestion and allow the integration of more renewables while saving customers money on their electric bills. I ended up working on a more than a dozen competitive transmission initiative projects and helping clients navigate the change, but the most fulfilling part was providing value to our clients as a trusted adviser.
I developed strong relationships with clients and helped to enable their success. Watching them thrive and their careers flourish as a result of our work together was extremely rewarding.
Most interesting place you've traveled for work?
I recently had the opportunity to visit the Burns & McDonnell India office in Mumbai. Burns & McDonnell India is a workplace focused on creating success for our clients, which transcends all cultures and locations. Our work brings our people the opportunity to work on challenging projects with co-workers who are motivated and connected — to the work and to each other. I was so impressed at how Burns & McDonnell India has developed a foundation of culture and success that aligns with our offices around the world.
What inspires you about your profession?
There is tremendous opportunity right now during a time of transformation. The acceleration of technology and information requires innovative approaches to finding value from that data and what to do with it. In the BTS Group at Burns & McDonnell, we are leading the charge to mobilize change in the industries we serve. I enjoy working with clients to advance growth initiatives and develop strategies for success amidst a rapidly changing business environment.
